I guess my first response would be this. Was your house in a fire and is it smoke damage your wanting to remove? Or, are you just wanting an overall answer in regards to cleaning your walls? In my own opinion nothing cleans better than the "old standbys" that have been used for years. Purchase a gallon of white distilled vinegar at your local market and use this with warm water to clean your walls. It also is the very best you can use to clean windows. I think you will be happy and simplicity in doing this doesn't cost an arm and leg. It is safe, cost only pennies, and cleans very well.

It's funny that you ask this because i just did this yesterday. I used to use bleach and water, but the bleach is soo strong and the only other thing i had to use was scrubbing bubbles. So I tried that just for the heck of it and it worked! Walls haven't been cleaned in a looonnng time and there are smokers. When the bubbles bubbled up....you can see it just lift the dirt up. I had a bucket of warm water and just wipe with a sponge.

409 works great. I once used it to clean nicotene from the walls. you have to scrub pretty well to get that tar off, to make it even, but for simple spots it should be pretty easy. just be sure the walls are a gloss paint, not a flat paint. if the paint is a flat paint, it's likely to obsorbe any moisture and you may be better off wipping with a dry towel, using very little water, or just re-painting

it depends how much you want to clean!!
if its just a little bit of wall just use any kitchen cleaner & a rinse cloth to rinse off the jif or spray & wipe etc
If you want to do a lot of walls there is sugar soap that is used before you paint to make the walls clean
you mix it with water so it goes a long way

there is no shortcut to clean a painted wall.however u can use thinner & paint scraper or electric brush to clean yr wall.at first u apply some thinner to wet the wall for 15 min.then use paint scraper to peel off the dirty area.make sure it is thoroughly clean & dry then only u paint up new one.take times & be patient!

TSP - The market should carry it. If I recall, dilute with water.
Trisodium phosphate (TSP), available at most hardware stores in white powder form, is a cleaning agent and degreaser, commonly used to prepare household surfaces for painting.
