The model is a Sears Coldspot, maybe already close to ten years of age. It will make these sounds once in a while, and then resume normal operation.

It sounds like the evaporator (freezer) fan motor is the culprit. This type of motor will make noises and stop and sometimes continue for some time or the motor will just stop completely or spin slowly and not circulate the air needed to cool the entire unit.

Open the freezer door and listen to the fan. Even if it is not making the noise you may hear a slight rattling sound or a slight rumbling. Turn the unit off for three minutes and start it back up and listen to the fan with the freezer door open. You should hear some kind of unusual sound from the fan.

If the noise is not coming from the freezer fan, it may be coming from the condenser fan(less likely but can happen) under the refrigerator.

Have had a similar problem, bought a used refrigerator from an appliance store. It had a 90 day warranty on it. In about a month it started making this horrible sound. I called the store and they sent their repair man out and in the back of the freezer there is a fan that defrosts it. That was the problem with ours. The repair man said it is about the most common problem with the frost free models. The plastic around the door of the freezer pops off and then the floor of the freezer comes out, then the back wall comes out, and the fan is in a recessed pocket. It has wire nuts that connects it to the power supply, undo them, remove the mounting screws and put the new one in. Our repair man had ours fixed in about 20 mins. Start to finish. We watched him and the next refrigarator we had that did it we fixed it ourselves. Be careful of the plastic it does break easy, but it is cosmetic, no real problem with the operation. And remember to unplug it from the wall before starting the project. Good luck. :)

It's probebly defrosting. I bought a brand new one and it made weird noises and the service guy said it's just defrosting.
