I have 3 closets in my bedroom. One is a walk in, and my clothes mildewed last summer. Another closet has dampness, my clothes are damp. Nothing is happening in the 3rd closet. I need an answer that won't be expensive. I am renting this house.

Charcoal is sometimes used to absorb moisture and odors. Now they've even come out with charcoal tablets you can stick in your refrigerator instead of baking soda. take an old pair of pantyhose and put a few unused charcoal briquettes in there and hang it up. It will keep things from getting mildewed. Put a few in a box on the floor too.

If you are renting the house let the landlord know what is going on. ALso look into renter's insurance because it covers all kinds of stuff, say if the power goes out for days and the food in your fridge spoils, most policies offer a $250 cover for you to buy food.

Having said that there are tons of products on the market to absorb moisture in closets. Like Damp Rid

Your landlord needs to be told about the mildew. You should now get renters insurance if you don't have any. Either the roof is leaking, or you have a water problem under the house. Both of these problems are the owners worry, not yours. Most states allow you to with hold rent until the owner makes the house livable, and mildew is not livable

I agree with others that the cause of the problem is your landlords worry. You should bring it to his/her attention. If your wall is wet there probably isn't much you can do. If the problem is from humidity try the following: you can leave the doors of the closets open, if the closet has a light - turn it on (mold doesn't like light), turn a floor fan on to circulate the air and use a dehumidifier.

hmmm- you have to keep aereating those small closet places...specially after you take a bath...plus get yourself..a small fun...and have the air moved in and out...circulate..good luck...
ps. most problems originate...from something done wrong...so you have to go to the origin of the error and correct it...hope it helps...ps. the third closet is a bit further way...that is why it is spared...
