I have an 11x8x5 bathroom with an 80 CFM exhaust fan. the fan doesnt vent the bathroom very well. I am starting to get mildew on the ceiling above the shower (more so in summer). the vent is in the center of the bathroom and the vent tube dumps opposite the shower end of the bathroom into the attic. why am i getting mildew? Fan too small, bad location? diff problem?

you need a bigger better fan. also if the bathroom has a wall that is an outside wall you should put the fan in that wall blowing out. mildew grows from lots things however. perhaps you have a small water leak somewhere in the plumbing. i would have that checked and also get a bigger fan.

I would put in a slightly larger fan, although the fan you have should be big enough. It is critical that the fan vents to the outside, not just into attic space. The vent "pipe" (or duct)should have no bends ( at least minimize bends for optimum flow). The duct should be 4 inches in diameter, no less.

Some building codes require exhaust fans to vent to the outside.I suggest you check this. You also need a larger fan.

I put in a restaurant fan with reduction flanges from Home Depot. It works real well.
