They will wait as long as they can till 40 weels if the baby hasnt dropped down to the birth canal I know that it feels extreamly heavy and there is all kinds of pressure on you but I will warn you this will be the longest weeks of your life the doc will tell you when and if they induce aprox what time you should check in to the hospital unless they call you or labor starts warning this is mostly always false hope they usually end up waiting till later rather than sooner but bottom line is it'll come when its time so hope all goes well and relax its gonna seem like forever but it will be alright GOOD LUCK!

Ok, first off: Is the doctor judging the size of the baby by fundal height or by ultrasound? Because honestly, ultrasounds can be off.
Seriously girl, unless there is a serious medical reason, you should hold off on the induction. I was 37 weeks when I was induced with my daughter, and she was 7lbs 2oz. The reason I had to be induced was because my water was leaking at a fast rate (it ruptured a decent hole, but didn't break).
The baby may not be as big as the doctor thinks s/he is. The way the baby is laying also has an effect on the doctors measurements.
Inductions sucks honestly. You get more IV fluids to deal with, and the pitocin makes the contractions come on WAY harder and faster than what they should, and the contractions SUCK, badly. Then, after you are done pushing the baby out, with all of the IV fluids that you have had, the fluid may settle in your feet and your feet swell like a mofo. You will feel like Fred Flintstone, how his feet are so big and fat, and it will feel like your feet are filled with water and sand. Don't let doctors tell you otherwise about this, take it from someone who had to be induced.
Some doctors will try to talk you in to induction because it fits their schedules easier. That way they don't have to be woke up at 3am. I think it's wrong that they do that, putting a child at risk that way.
So, seriously - unless you have a serious dire medical need for induction, stay away from it. Please. Let the baby come on his/her own. AND GOOD LUCK!

Speaking from previous experience, my wife measured out at 8lbs 14 oz at 37 weeks with our first child. We ended up having to go c-section when she ended up delivering 8 days late (even then, we had to induce) and delivered a stapping 10lb 1oz boy. We got the trifecta in our lamaze class for biggest (23 1/2 inches), heaviest, and most overdue. What stunk is we went through all those classes and eneded up going c-section (even then, it was still exciting). At this stage of the game EVERYTHING feels heavy, just try to relax, and make the guy do some of the work---he might as well get used to it. OB/GYN's are often among the most cautious doctors around as they are dealing with two lives at once. Trust him/her---and if you don't find a new one you DO trust (and fast). Most doctors induce if the baby is over 3 days past due and/or there is too much stress on the baby (or mom). So when they say "soon", that could actually be much later than what you are thinking. Whan all else fails----call and clarify. Get a "cutoff" date from your doctor. Good luck and congratulations!!!

uh..you are 37 weeks. of course the baby is big. you only have 3 more weeks. I am 37 weeks right now and the baby feels so heavy to me now, but that's normal. You are probably having a boy and it's a good thing that your baby is big and healthy. just wait it out.

37 weeks is full-term so if I were you I would start walking everywhere I go. Having a large baby could get you a c-section or a very uncomfortable vaginal birth. A little healthy self-inducement won't hurt anyone and by next wk. at your appt. you are still pregnant, I wouldn't leave until they induced you.

I am 38 weeks and my baby has been heavy since 33 weeks I have a big baby for dates I thought I was going to have my baby a while a go and now that it is just getting bigger and bigger I am afraid I mayn't have him/her naturally. But the baby will come when it is ready and when my body is ready as well. so hang in there just a little while longer and it will be all over. good luck to you and your baby!

just a week ago i went through the same thing. Im 38weeks and it seems to me that im all baby and hardly any fluid. BUT the best way to calm urself is lay down and let ur stomach relax. then its easier to determin how much baby is in there. but if ur still worried ask ur doctor and if they are concerned they will do another ultra sound and check its weight. hope it helps!!!! and congradulations :D

If there is somehting wrong your doctor will tell you. That is why the doctors go to school so long. Quit worrying about it.
