is that grammatically correct, and even if it is, do many people say it?

as in, for example: We'll be on the bus for 5 hours. After that, we'll be stopping in Gainesville where you can take a rest for 10 minutes.
Would that be a grammatically correct sentence? Is it something a native speaker would say naturally?

Nah, take a rest sounds too much like "take the rest" as in, "take the rest of the day off!"

A job from my past allowed us 3 ten minute breaks and one 20 minute lunch, (we were paid for them), on a 12 hour shift. We would all take an extra 10 minute break somewhere during the day at different times. Our supervisor allowed this by saying it was a "Rest Period". He was a nice guy and we worked our hineys off for him. He knew it.

Hmmm. I think it should be: "get some rest." Take a rest sounds OK to me, but I've been in Japan for a decade, and all sorts of things sound OK.

I do know it's "take a nap."

I think the expression is more often just 'OK - rest' when a physical trainer is working with someone.
