I've heard of people who are more comfortable with men being gay but not women and vice versa. And usually it's straight men can't handle gays but are okay with lesbians, and on the other side of the coin girls can be okay with gay men but not lesbians. But I did know one girl who was straight (I assume) who didn't have a problem with lesbians but gay men. It literately made her sick to her stomach.

As a lesbian, I feel most comfortable around gay men. Here are my reasons:
Straight Men: I feel objectified. I hate feeling like I am some form of entertainment to them. I know that not all straight men look at lesbians that way, but that stereotype os so widespread, it sneeks in there.
Straight Women: I feel like I am being judged or like they are not being themselves.
Lesbians: Physical attraction to some....can make certain situations uncomfortable.
Man, I just realized that I have a lot of issues to work out...I have to stop putting all people into groups and doing to them what I hate them doing to me!! I suck!

Two theories:
One is that gay people of the same sex as the person in question represent a threat to them sexually, so they have an aversion on those grounds (consciously or not).
The other is that NO one likes gay men, because they've been more heavily stigmatized in society BECAUSE society is run by a patriarchy which is more threatened by gay men (see above) than lesbians. Some women, therefore, are socialized to be incredibly uncomfortable with gay men, whereas everyone's more willing to look the other way regarding lesbians.

I'm totally comfortable with GLBT people. I have many theories about homophobia and why straight people may be uncomfortable with gay people but I don't want to go into long detail. The one thing that you mentioned that I'd like to address is straight women having problems with gay men. Women know they have a certain control over men by using their sexuality. Ladies, we all know that we can manipulate (for lack of a better term) straight men easily. We know we can generally get what we want from our husbands, bf's and other straight guys by using flirtation and friendly persuasion. My theory is that some women, excluding those who think it's wrong because of religious or "moral" reasons, dislike and resent gay men because this does not work with them.

When I was younger and more naive, I felt very threatened by lesbians in a way gay men never made me feel (looking back, I think it was because of some internalized homophobia; that contemplating/talking about lesbians was dangerous because it made me seem gay).

Now, I love everybody.

I used to be more comfy with gay men because of the the 'safety' factor (I'm a straight female), and because they were more visible to me. Since encountering lesbians in the workplace (and enjoying outstanding camaraderie and some companionship with them), I see the only need is for me to state my interests (or lack of) so nobody misunderstands or gets misunderstood in the process of getting to know each other.
I'm learning how to put my beliefs into practice . . . I don't believe it matters who wants to do what to whom if the whoms are agreeable. I want to make friends, learn about life and be good to those around me. Who should care about something as personal as one's sexuality? That's the absolute LAST thing on my 'list' of qualities desired from a friend.
As for bi- and trans- . . . the greater challenges they face makes them more special to me.

I have no problem with gay men.
I have no problem with lesbians.
I have no problem with intersexed people.
I have no problem with transfolk.
I have no problem with monogamous straight people.

(I have a HUGE problem with "monogamous" people who CHEAT on their partners when it's not an open relationship. People have a right to know and assess their own direct and indirect risks of STD's, etc.)

Strangely, though I'm queer and I'd like to say I have no problem with bisexuality, I wince a little bit - sometimes - when I think of being with a BI guy. It's kind of a "you put that WHERE and now you want to put it HERE? I don't THINK so!" factor. Women are really susceptible to infection if a male lover has been scre*wing another man and doesn't have his hygiene in tiptop shape.

Since I am a gay guy, I am the most comfortable around other gay guys because I can be the most open and honest around them. I am also comfortable around straight guys as long as they are comfortable around me. It's not that I am uncomfortable around women, its just that I do not have that much in common with women and conversations end up being forced.

Most straight people like homosexuality in the opposite sex because they can get off on it. Some people are just weird and develop odd taste in discrimination.

I have no problem either way, a person needs to be true to themselves.

I am more at ease with gay men, but then I'm queer anyway. I don't think different of lesbian's, I find them a little mysterious but that's 'cause I don't get women anyway sometimes.

I don't have a problem with any of them besides a transgender which is strange for me but even then it's not like I treat them bad or anything.

And no I'm not gay.
