The scale of America's production during WWII can be summed up in the reaction of some "experts" to Franklin Roosevelt's declaration that America would produce 5,000 planes for use against the Axis powers.

The experts predicted that Roosevelt's prediction was way off. They were right, but in the wrong direction. The U.S. factories did not produce 5,000 planes during the war, they produced 50,000!

THe war greatly increased America's economy. Before the war, America was recovering from the Great Depression. American industry and agriculture produced equipment (tanks, planes, guns) and foods for the troops on the Allies.
