I did this after we bought our house. It was a lot of fun. Just go to your county Register of Deeds and they'll get you started. They'll show you where the book is that has your title, then you use reference numbers to go back through the old books. It's really fascinating right down to the ink and typeface, and then back through to where they were handwritten using a quill. It took me about 3 hours to go back through all the books to the original date that the land was surveyed for the King of England (that's who stole it from the natives) It gets a little tricky when you get back to when the land was in big parcels being subdivided and split off, but it's worth the effort, in my opinion.
