I bought my husband a router for Christmas. The manual states that it is table mountable but additional hardware is needed. It does not state what hardware though. I would like to be able to include this bracket (or whatever it is) in for a complete gift. What do I need to purchase? The Router is a Cummins if that makes a difference.

I should have said earlier...I'm trying to not buy a table, if possible. I'm looking for something to attach to his current table or bench if possible. Thanks!

You will have to buy the router table which has a rectangular opening in the top. You also will need a kit that mounts on the bottom of the router so that you essentially hang the router upside down from the rectangular hole. The table will have a "fence" which will guide the wood over the router bits. Your husband will have a great time using this tool. Check a local woodworking store for the table or check the net at Rockler.com or Woodcraft .com for the table. The total cost for table and kit will be $100 plus but I bet he will really like it if he is into woodworking.

Cummins doesn't come up as a company with a site at first Google. Check the instruction manual for the router and see if there's an 800 number or a website where this additional gear might be found. It may be that you can simply screw the router upside down with the chuck available through an appropriate hole in a work table and you'll be able to rout like anything? I've done this with a circular saw to make it a table saw. A little ingenuity and care, if there are holes in the router that will allow it to be attached with screws, you're set.

Doing it the company's way, of course, is the best policy.

good luck

If your husband is like mine, I would not buy him ANYTHING for his router table unless you know EXACTLY what he's looking for. My husband is VERY particular about his tools and accessories. With that said, as stated in other answers, when the manufacturer is stating that the router is table mountable, it is referring to mounting it in a regular router table. My husband made his own router table using a piece of melamine board, plywood, framing lumber, tracks and clamps purchased from Rockler Woodworking, and a piece of steel which he tooled himself to proper specifications. If your husband is able to tool metal or plexiglas and has a drill press, and all the regular woodworking tools, then maybe you could give him a card with an "IOU the materials for building your own router table." Otherwise, though it's a VERY nice idea, I think I would chuck the whole idea and save it for another gift another time. Router tables are rather expensive. Even building it yourself runs into about $50 or better.

By the way, the router in itself IS a complete gift. It can be used for many many applications without a router table. The use of the router table just makes it easier and more precise.

It isn't going to work. A drill press doesn't turn the bit fast enough, at any belt setting, to work with a Router bit. As slow as the bit would be turning it would dig in to the wood. I wouldn't even recommend trying it as when it digs in it will probably throw that piece of wood across the room. If it throws it at you it could cause a grave injury. If you have a good detail sander, patience and a steady hand you can do a pretty good round over by sanding. A lot depends on the size of the wood and how much rounding you want.

For stationary use, you need a router table. Most tables are adaptable to any brand router.

most routers Ive had and mounted Ive had to remove the plastic base of the router and try and line up some or one hole and then mark the other holes. Then of coarse you have to drill new holes and then take screws and mount the router. if you ever have o use the router again hand held you just have to reinstall the base, it hasn't hurt any router Ive done that to.

The router table has to have a hole in it. Most work benches don't.
You need to purchase the table. Lowe's and other places sell them.

the brand of router you bought must be the same brand as the table he has for it to mount to it if it is the same brand you only need to remove the plastic cover under the bottom and it will mount right up.

you can check with the manufacturer and inquire about a table mounting kit if available, if not, all he'll probably need are a couple C-clamps
