After ten years using the #8 (taken from his days at the Adidas ABCDE camp #1+4+3 = 8), Kobe Bryant decided to switch to the number he wore when he started high school, #24.
Hope this helps.

There are two possibilities but I believe it was none of them.
1) Was his number that he wore in high school
2) His son was born on that date in September
The real reason: He wants to be +1 over Michael Jordan. He wants to be 1 better than the greatest. I don't see this as anything wrong, doesn't change my perception of him, still my favorite player.
