George W is the pres. of the US, right? The demcrats you are referring to primarily are the politicians that are also involved in the same line of work. If these are the democrats that you are referring to, then, you surely know the answer, don't you? Nothing gets done either way if the president and his staff do not communicate and try to work out some sort of solution about their disagreements. That is the #1 reason why. There are many more, but perhaps that will answer what you needed to know.

Because he has to. Just as Clinton had to in 1994. Remember when the Republicans took the house and senate 2 years later he got re-elected as a Democrat. Don't be suprised when John McCain and Rudy win in a landslide against Hillary and co. in 2 years.

Because his party is no longer a Majority, and he can no longer make decisions that make him and his friends richer without the approval of the other party. Now, he has to work with the other party in order to get anything done.
Only wish he would have chocked on that pretzel a few years ago. The world would be a better place.

Bush wanted unity and that is the reason why he is talking with the Democrats. Party lines must not be divisive after the elections.

In layman's terms, it is called "brown nosing". He is sucking up to the guys that have the control - he will not be able to do anything without the congress working with him. Before, it was a given. Now, he has to step lightly, and be careful not to piss anyone off.
