Neocons have done a number on the Republican party, especially with all their hate and dislike of anyone other than themselves! They are really Fascist and should start their own party, though I think Bush is a Fascist as well!

The modern-day Republicans are amazed that any one would choose reality over the Christian groove of the party bandwagon.
Some Republicans voted for the Democrats this time, yes. The number one reason was disgust with the Iraq war.
But it was independent voters who gae the democrats their victory. Independents often split about 50/50, but this time it was at least 57/39 for the democrats. They did it to punish the republicans for going off the rails.

I've been a Republican since I turned 21 (that used to be the voting age), and I voted a straight Democratic ticket. Yes, disgusted with the way the GOP has been hijacked by abominations.
I saw the interview where G.W.Bush said he was very amazed and surprised by the loss. A reporter asked him "Are you THAT out of touch with the people of America?"

Seriously? You really want to know why the trolls are in such shock and all that...?
Plato. He said it best: "What you think of, you will become."
And what have your mass media, hard-right neo-conservatives been *obsessing about* for the past 26 years and counting?
Political Correctness. The substitution of soundbites and slogans where substantial argumentation *should be*. Using the same buzzwords everyone else does instead of thinking things through yourself, on your own even. Kneejerk politics, letting the Media put you on *autopilot* as regards your opinions, in other words. *And also* letting your ability to think on your own *without the media telling you what to do* go to crap as well. :)
Quite simply put, so-called liberals do *not* have a monopoly on letting their soundbites and quotes and quips do their thinking for them. If you leave the neo-cons in charge for two decades plus and let them *own their own news outlet in Fox News* eventually the power trip will go to their heads....and they will be PC too.
And folks got it. And got fed up with it, the only part that stuns me still is that it took so long, that Hurricane Katrina wasn't enough, that it took *several months* of back-to-back rising casualties in Iraq too to bring folks around. And I mean NO disrespect at all to anyone, to any soldiers who have died, or to any families of the fallen, when I say this, ok? I am just appalled that the death and destruction wrought upon *ordinary citizens* by Katrina didn't bring folks around sooner...that is all.
But I digress. Point is, what's good for the Blue Goose is good for the Red Gander too. Political Correctness sucks, and this is true whether it comes from Fox News or PBS, ok?
Just saying....Hope this helps. :)

From top to bottom the Republican Party is out of step with itself
and out of touch with it's traditional base. Ohio is a great example
with major state offices changing hands and several congressional races still undecided. Several county-level party bosses refused to support their incumbents sending a confused message to their base. The traditional base had been ignored for 8 years and what info they received, they weren't sure of.

Once again I see that you are being very vague. What extreme republicans are so amazed, and what specific changes were voted for that you have based your question on by whom?

Because the other choice was so awful in a lot of the cases. But I respect everyones right to vote for who ever they want to.

The moderate republicans know why they lost, but the right wing base denys the country likes moderation.
