About 2 hours and 5 minutes after my first pill of my birth control pill pack (I've been on the pill for 1 yr or so), I had a bowel movement that was a little soft and very easy to pass...it was still formed but it seemed pretty soft.

I have IBS but I usually don't have diarrhea...just abnormal stools (sometimes, thinner, flatter).

Would a soft but formed bowel movement be diarrhea? Would this have affected my pill??

This would not effect how effective your birth control pills are at all.
Personally, you are slightly paranoid about this. Relax. As long as you take your pills daily you are fine. Unless you throw up/vomit 30 minutes or less after taking your pill the pill is ingested properely. If you still remain concerned you should use a back up method such as condoms with your pills.

It doesn't sound like diarrhea, it just sounds like a softer than usual movement. There are plenty of things that can influence that, in addition to the IBS. If you ate a bit more fat that usual, more salad, or fruit. With IBS of course the concern is diarrhea, which is considered to be unformed, watery stools without form at all. The pill you took would have been nowhere in the vicinity, more than likely it was being absorbed in the stomach and duodenum at the time. Most of the pill gets absorbed in the upper portion of the small intestine, unless something interferes with the absorbtion or utilitization- something like an antibiotic being taken for another illness. Diarrhea doesn't usually affect birth control pills because they dissolve fairly quickly in the stomach and can be rapidly absorbed. What usually throws BCP's is vomiting, which removes it from the system before it's been absorbed.
Worse case scenario and you had diarrhea to the extent you were passing stuff through the gut at top speed, you would still likely be covered, as long as you were not vomiting as well and could take it with water. If you were that ill, you would probably want to use another form of birth control until you had finished that pack out. Though most ladies can actually skip a pill or two entirely and be just fine, especially if they have been on them for a while- and a year would be plenty long enough. Even if you were to go see your doctor, at this point there would be little he could do, except to advise you to take the rest of the pack and cover with another form of birth contol until then. It's always best to continue taking them, even if you think they are going through the system, because even a small amount of hormone is better than none at all- and fluctuations naturally happen anyway.

I don't think it would effect your pill in any way. From what I've read, the only time you need to be concerned about that kind of thing happening is if you vomit within half an hour of taking your pill.

You have to have diarrhea for 2 days straight for it to have an affect on your BC, don't worry.
