They were working on a Star Flee Academy idea, but I don't know if it panned out or not.
They may have cooled because of the ratings of Enterprise, which were the lowest of any in the franchise.
Rick Berman may let the thing cool off for another 20 years and then revive it when your kids are ready for another taste!
I've had many ideas for either final movies or shows, but I have yet to put a package together and ask if Berman will review it, but I'm not sure he will. It was Jeri Taylor who instigated the open call for stories and scripts when she was a co-exec, Michael Pillar liked some of the stories but he was not that much in favor of the open call. Berman's a dedicated Paramount exec and they are relucant to take outside material. But one day I may actually finish one.
I had a nice idea but I couldn't get a moralist play out of it.
The idea I had made Picard an Admiral and put him at Odds with Riker who was now Captain of the Enterprise with Warf as 2nd in command, it also had Data as Captain, Beverly as Captain and Dianna as Captian. It was a rescue mission and as I said it pitted Picard against Riker and left Riker wondering what has become of Piccard and ethics. Troy and Crusher were the buffering agents gone renegade against orders. The problem was the Moralist tale. I never licked that problem and my script was also way above 120 pages.
I also had a story about the remants of the original going off in serach of the McCoy legacy, but without Scotty I think it's no longer as feesable as before. I was going to bring in Gary Sinese in multiple roles and it had to do with clonning, but again I was stumped ont he Moralist tale part of it, which Berman and the other look for in a story.

They probably will, but they would have to leave it for a fair few years.
There has been Trek overload lately. They started DS9 near the end of Next Gen, Voyagre overlapped halfway through DS9. Then Enterprise comes sprinting out of Spacedock like there's no tomorrow.
I think the idea of a Starfleet Academy series was dropped in favour of Enterprise.
The idea of the Enterprise series was a great idea, just put together really shabbily with no thought at all for the chronology already established.
I like the Temporal Investagtions idea posted above. Though I would prefer to see a run of mini-series, maybe a dozen 1 hour episodes featuring different themes:
One story on the Maquis, another on an unseen aspect of the Dominion War, the whole story of the Enterpirse C helping defend the Klingon colony etc.

I don't think there will be another series, because the idea for the next movie (a young Kirk and Spock) is really going to ruin the franchise.
The direction I would love to see it go in would be the 60 years between Star Trek...Generations and Star Trek...the Next Generation.

Hopefully not for a while.
Give people more time to forget Voyager and Enterprise.
I would personally like to see (although they would NEVER do this) a series based on Section 31 and/or the Department of Temporal Investigations. I really liked these two mysterious divisions of Starfleet.

I hope they do (but I am not sure they will). I would like to see a series that is set further in the future then any of the previous ones, maybe in the 26th century.

I doubt it because the last one failed so badly. However there are a lot of fans out there so who knows, anything is possible.
