A friend of mine had a deck of Hoyle cards that had a hole through them. It looked like the hole was used by a hole punch. The holes all perfectly lined up also.

Was your friend in the Military? The Casino I work at donates boxes of cards to servicemen overseas and veteran hospitals. You are right there is a giant hole punch that makes that hole. Only it is not one deck at a time but three stacks of three are done at once. The Security Officers in the Casino take care of this. Cards are used only once per day. ANd the decks are constantly being switched. Working in and being formaly deployed, I have a couple of decks of cards at home with the Hole in them. There are people out there that have decks of cards that I myself have 'drilled' the hole in. :-)

Usually when gambling casinos are done using a deck of cards they either punch a hole threw them or cut of one of the corners. Not sure why they do it. I just know every time I ask casinos for a deck of used cards that's how I receive them.

That means that they were once used at a casino. They get a new deck each time so people dont accuse them of cheating and they have to punch holes through each deck.

your friend probably somehow got this deck of cards from a casino. Casinos put holes in these cards so they cant be brought back to the casino and be used to cheat by somehow altering the cards or using some trick.
