If you have a personal computer in your room, unplug it. Don't use your roommate's computer either. If you need to do school work on the internet or type an essay, do that and then get off. Find a hobby not related to technology, read a new book, try painting or some other art medium, join a club, tutor someone. Making goals of what you want to accomplish each day helps too.
I have the same problem spending too much time online, I'm on here instead of doing my homework! Guess I better follow my own advice and do my hw!

After school, shut your computer off for a bit. This is a habit I am currently facing, I normally am on for about three hours a day. Cutting down from around 4-5 a year ago. It's a rough habit to get over. I go to the movies with my friends alot now, most of my online time comes around the night. When I have completed my homework, spent time with friends, etc. I see nothing wrong with taking television time and turning it into computer time.

You could always find a hobby. Like for instance, My hobby is to coach youth hockey in my area. Growing up if I wasn't at school or at the rink for my own hockey events I was sitting in front of the TV with the Playstion in my hand. When I became a junior in high school I started to coach hockey. I've been doing it ever since then. It's been 5 years now, and I don't think I've turn my playstion on for more than an hour a week. In some case I haven't even looked at it. There's always different ways to beat you addicts. What works for me is giving back to the community.

Same here......same sites.....same problem. If it wasn't for me going to school, I seriosuly woul dbe here for more than 10 hours like I was in the summer. If you REALLY want to overcome the habit, get rid of the internet. If you can't, just turn off the computer and slowly back away. What I would do is do all your hw first and stuff......then get online around night. This way you get more tired easily so you spend less time being online.

Turn off your computer and find other things to occupy your time. I know it's hard because I used to be very much addicted to the Internet myself. It's like being addicted to cigarettes, it's very hard to quit and I don't recommend doing it cold turkey.

i have similar issues sometimes, but that's only because i am constantly using my computer, being a college student! one way to stop is to just go for a walk in a park or somewhere you know won't have computers around. i find that going to the library quiet room or out just shopping helps take my mind off it. if that still doesn't help, you may want to seek professional help. good luck!

I have the same problem. Remind yourself that what you're doing is pointless and urge yourself to finish your homework. You could also try doing your homework while being on the internet if you are able to multitask.
