I read in a gun magazine once that a woman being attacked by a man shot him in the stomach twice and went and filed a police report, and in the end had no consequences against her. Not sure if he died, but he could've. Was she able to keep the armed weapon in her purse like that legally?

check with your state. There are a couple of states that you don't need a concealed permit to carry.

laws vary state to state. Some states allow the carrying of side arms but they have to be in plain sight, yes a holster like a cowboy. Other states allow the carrying in a concealed manner. Other states don't allow carrying at all. Most allow carrying in plain sight to hunt. Others allow to have in your possession but they can not be loaded as a matter of fact, you cannot have the ammo even near the gun giving you the ability to load it. Its possible! Most states are now going to a more direct self defense law. In Florida, if you had a gun and someone broke into your house, you had to make all attempts to retreat from the intruder at any cost. It was only possible to shoot if he posed an eminent danger to your family and self and no other means or avenue of retreat was available. Now the retreat isn't necessary! If he breaks in and you tell him to get out and he comes at you, you may discharge that weapon.

Gun carry laws vary from state to state. In my state the gun laws are posted on the State Police web site. You can check the State Police in your state.

1)Carrying a gun in a holster is not necessarily carrying concealed. If the holster is on the waist and visible, it may have been perfectly legal for her to carry.
2)Laws vary in each state for registration and licensing. If she was licensed to carry and the gun was legally registered, no laws broken.
3)If she acted in self defense and felt she was in mortal/imminent danger she did not commit a crime by defending herself.

These are are generalities based on the laws here in Illinois. You didn't specify where you live so I'm not sure if everything applies to your state but the laws are probably similar.

The legality of carrying a concealed or un-concealed weapon depends on what State you live in. In some States it also depends on what county you live in. Some State & county gov'ts will issue permits to carry a hand gun. A freind who had been out hunting walked into a local bank whith his side arm still in its holster on his hip. The bank guard asked him to take it back to his vehicle but he was not arrested or charged with a crime.

Depends, here in New Mexico, it is legal to carry a side arm in a holster as long as you dont carry it into schools, airports, liquor establishments, and areas prohibiting weapons as posted. So here, you can walk don the street with a side arm. We also have concealded carry permits.
