My neighbors consist of Fat Ed next door who loves to stand buck naked in his bedroom window which happens to face my livingroom window. Not pretty. On the other side is my crazy neighbor (Ed's a perv but he's not crazy), who constantly calls the county on me whenever something isn't the way she likes it and then tried to pick up anyone I have to hire to repair something. She also knocks over my trash cans and just raked her leaves onto my driveway. In the middle of the night. She's a nut job. The couple across the street are a mixed race, white and asian couple with a 3yr old. I've been watching their family grow since she was pregnant and they decorate quite nicely. I put up a hand made wreath and a blue light in the window, and that's about it for me. What's to compete for?

I'm a bit of a Martha Stewart wannabe so I like to make things nice- though I don't feel like I'm competing with the neighbours... I just like to make sure my home, yard, family etc look kept... I'm a very visual person. (PS- The whole brightest Christmas lights thing is tacky even here in the Midwest! Plus it's really ecologically irresponsible! I'm not a practicing Christian but I really feel like Christmas should be about family and not about lights, trees, or any of that hoo ha... Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now!) Thanks!

No, we have only one neighbor and no one else passes our house so we don't bother with the outside of the house too much. No one comes to the house for Christmas either. My neighbor puts one strand of colored lights and white lighted reindeer in the yard and it looks so nice. I really appreciate his efforts even though I don't share the same enthusiasm.

no,but i know people who do it's rediculus. i know 1 girl who likes to be in competion w/ other people w/gift giving she told me last yr.her kids had over 30 gifts.no clue to what life or spirits about . they are always in competion w/neighbors across the street,w/yard work and things.sad part is they can't afford to do this. and of course they don't like each other. happy holidays

not really. the simpler it is the better. the more one puts up the more one has to take down. if one gets " carried away " then one can waste a lot of time and energy ( not to mention money ) trying to keep up with the neighbors.

No! I don't understand why people want to be the best or have the biggest. I like to be unique, and people compliment me on that.
