Where are the Aikman's. Marino, Elway, Montana, Young. I guess Favre is in there, he was good and kind of still is. I liked Staubach and Unitus too. Too many to list. Nameth. Bradshaw.

I think you are comparing apples to oranges.

Yes - there were some great qb's back in the day, but you also have to realize that you are more aware of other things than just talent as an adult. Not to mention the "bit players" are more of a contributing factor now days. And the defense can do things now they couldn't back then, which makes the qb's look different now.

I think you have to weigh each qb in their time. I mean, Manning is going to the Hall, as will Brady. Vick was/is hype, and I have yet to see him do something that earns him all of the hype he has. Favre will also go to the Hall, and has been compared to many qb's from back in the day (Montana, Marino). Elway was also something to be admired (though I'm not a fan of his. . .).

If you want to look on just the quarterback talent, I think that Marino has to get a lot of respect. I mean, the man is considered one of the greatest, and his numbers are phenominal, but he has no rings to show for all he did. He got his team and his numbers without much of a supporting cast. Montana had Rice, as did Young. A great receiver will make a quarterback look a lot better. I mean, let's look at Terry Bradshaw. The man threw to Lynn Swann - his "target" range is rather large in that respect. But Bradshaw won 4 superbowls. . . Is he really better than Marino? Not on your life. Bradshaw just had the rest of the "Steel Curtain" to get him to where he was going.

I guess if you want to see which qb's are the "best", you gotta take the other factors out of it, and just look at the "fair and consistant" numbers. Take out the numbers that would rely on other "great" players to get them so high. It may be hard, but that is the best way to do things.

Who do I think is the best? Mr. Unitas, for sure. . . Was he from your childhood???

Different kinds of talent for an evolving game, secondaries are faster and stronger, same with linemen, you don't exactly see the "Refrigerator" Perry types out there. The quarterback has to be mobile, but also have a strong arm. QB's like the Mannings rely on strong linemen to keep them protected so they can haul the ball downfield. But I grew up on Young, Montana, Cunningham, Simms, Rypien, different times, different talents.

I think Steve Young or Joe Montana were a couple of the all time greatest QB's. Peyton Manning he's got game, and is certainly one of the best in this era !

What was your childhood? If 1967, I'd agree with you but this NFL era is not bad at all as you have a wide variety of styles. It sure beats the Joe Piscarcik era.

I also like Palmer, Frye, Roethlisberger, Rivers, Brees, Bulger, Favre, Romo, Grossman, Pennington and Huard/Green. Even Garrard and Seneca Wallace have been good fill-ins.

You can throw in Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Marc Bulger, etc.

You're talking about legends who were one of maybe three or four of their generation. Did you know that Bradshaw NEVER had a 300 yd regular season game? And Namath sucked.

Yea...it's you.

Put the stadiums all back outside. That's when QB's were tough. Now we have a bunch of pretty boys looking to be protected by their team mates.

It's definitely you. The QB's you have named range from different periods. Now you have:

P. Manning (HOF)
McNair (Maybe HOF)
Favre (HOF)

All of those guys are playing then you have the just superstar guys:

Palmer
Bulger
Dnabb
Rivers
Vick
Hasselbeck
E. Manning
Plummer

There are tons of great QB's in the league. Defenses are just alot stronger than they previously were.
