If you get pierced by a professional using clean sterile utensils theres little to no chance of getting an infection, however If you do it yourself I'd say an infection is very likely.

Well, if you are piercing it yourself, it won't matter what you do because chances are you'll screw something up. Self piercing is never wise unless you are a skilled and train professional and I'm guess you are not. Self piercing, while more painful is not wise because you don't know much about anatomy, sterilization, jewelry, proper aftercare, keloids, scarring, rejection and migration. So, don't do it, trust me, I see lots of botched piercings and you'll end up with an very unpleasant looking navel

As a professional piercer, I did 4 of my 6 navel piercings myself and even with proper equipment and techniques, I still felt a lot more pain than had someone else done it for me.

Please, do the smart thing and have a professional do it for you. And as long as you clean the piercing immediately after dancing, you should be fine. Just try to be as easy as you can, or get it pierced when/if you have a month or two of down time during dancing.

first if your going to pierce it yourself make sure you have the right gauge and you know what your doing. Ive had a friend that passed out and it was all jacked up and the piercing was really deep.needle. About the dancing, thats not an issue. The owner of my dance studio had her naval pierced about a year ago and she's at the dance studio dancing 6 days a week from 10am-9pm. Trust me it wont be a problem.

The only reason you're trying to do it yourself is because you're 14 and can't get it done legally. So when you get an infection or you rip it doing your little dance thing, you'll probably hold off getting help because you don't want your parents to find out, and then you'll have some kind of flesh eating bacteria and get scarred for life.

ok i did that and TRUST me it hurts like hell and u get light headed and if u use ice 2 numb the area its harder 2 get the needle through and you have 2 have a belly ring nothing else and if u get the needle through u have 2 leave it 4 a bit and twist it sso it doesnt get stuck and stuff and it didnt even work 4 me and the hole looked gross after and later on i learned u could paralize urself why do u think they charge money 2 put a hole in ur body? because they know how 2 do it correctly my advice is dont be dumb and get it done professionaly and if ur 2 young WAIT its well worth it and if u do it urself and dance that much it could get bothered more then if done professionally idk just a thought

Don't do it yourself. That's just stupid. If it gets infected you could be fighting to hide your stomach for the rest of your life. Just go get it done, it's not that $$. And yes, sweat will irritate it.

when I was in my bio class in high school a senior came in and said she had pierced her own belly button, and then passed out - have someone pro do this - trust me - and they'll be able to answer your question from experience

Don't. Pay to have it done or you can risk getting a very bad infection or worse bleed internally.
