I really think it's becoming an issue to me. When talking with friends or known persons, sometimes, when they say something, I really don't pay attention and just node my head to show that I am listening, Sometimes if they expect me to say something I don't remember what they were saying before? This happens suddenly in a conversation and I don't intend to do so (I try my best to listen). Feel kinda embarassed. I'm not bored with them.
Its just bothering me for not paying attention, what should I do?

Basically, they're boring you. Or you are busy trying to think up a snappy comeback or a funny anecdote. I've had this happen too, it's more embarrassing than serious. Just shrug it off and say, "I'm sorry but something distracted me, what were you saying?"
Its' interesting you mention it re: known persons because it would be much less likely with someone you've just met, as you're less likely to be able to anticipate their responses, statements, etc.
On a related note: I sometimes find it hard to remember peoples' names unless they say something that is memorable. It is very embarrassing to have to ask someone their name so soon after meeting them, but its' better than 'hey chief' 'buddy boy' etc.

There are a few possibilities.
1. The conversation is getting boring, so you tune out.
2. You have other things on your mind that seem more pressing than the present subject.
3. Attention Deficit Syndrome
4. Emotional problems?
5. A hearing problem?
6. You may be concentrating on an answer and don't hear the entire conversation.
7. There may be several conversations going on at the same time and they are all competing for your attention. You therefore become confused.

Perhaps you are stressed and your mind is trying to work out other problems even though you really want to be in the moment with your friends. If this is the case you need to take care of the issues that are distracting you. That may mean getting professional help.

you just might have a very mild form of ADD... (it makes it hard to pay attention to things) or then again you just might be more of a quiet or inward person! If you are really bothered by it, try listening CAREFULLY to what they are saying... then while they are talking, say the same things in your mind... then you will remember it as if you were the one who said it! Good luck, I hope this helps!

Sorry, I nodded off reading you question. I'll get back to you after I have a couple of caffeinated sodas.

Sorry it was so easy I couldn't resist.

OK, seriously, have you ever considered that you might have a slight case of ADHD or ADD...depending on what you care to call it?

I agree with the others who say you might have ADD. I have this myself and it took many years and the help of modern chemistry to be able to focus and stay focused.

either you have ADD or you're just really self centered and don't think anyone else has anything worth listening to to say.
