80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

There's a purpose for your life. You need to find it. What's the reason for living? Great question for the Philosophy section!
Depends on who you ask (Which is why you need to answer it for yourself). To know love and serve God. Or perhaps to help others. Maybe you have some challenges that you need to get over so you can grow spiritually? Or perhaps on the darker side, to be an example to others of what not to do.
Bad people, Bad jobs, be abused? I think not.

There is a reason for everything - to there are more reasons to be alive and living meaningfully.
We are not alone in this world, and we owe to some of them - our parents, our children, our loved ones - that we live our lives in a manner that will not cause them worries. The link of attachment can never be cut. It is also both our duty and obligation(as parents, if we do have children) to see that the children are provided for until they are independent, or to provide care for our spouses (since we chose to marry them) or our parents, as they brought us up, and they will grow old and be less able to look after themselves.
During our dark periods, which most people may encounter in their lives, there may be thoughts of life not worth carrying on. How do we cope with despairs and frustrations, especially when we feel that the world could be against us (as in the people we meet)? Unless we change ourselves, in the way we view things, we may continue to see the darker side of things. Yes, change to look at things more optimistically. See negative events, actions of others, attitudes of others from a more optimistic perspective. Do not let actions of others dictate how you live. If you do, you are penalising yourself by the actions of others. If you can be oblivious to those 'nasty' actions, would you have a better day/time?
Try your best in whatever you do, and deep inside, somehow, there will be pride in achievement. Give yourself a little pat on the shoulder.
The world is ever-changing, and being curious is an anti-dote for boredom. By not being bored, half our problem will be solved. Learn to love. Yes, love your nieghbour, love humankind, love people as they are. With a loving heart, we will feel more for the world - the tragedies, the starvation, the war-torn countries, etc.
To live well does not mean to be rich, but to cherish what we have. Love our work, and it will be something we look forward to it everyday. Because we spend most of our time on it, the secret to happy people is that they love their work.

We are alive because we are organisms.
Organisms that consume energy to grow and reproduce.
Further than that, the meaning of life is maximizing all the factors that may culminate in surviving long enough to successfully continue one's genetic line. Success is measured in keeping that lineage going. With the one exception of spirituality, all other aspects of life directly or indirectly relate to, and can be traced to facilitating that function.
I understand there is a book out that addresses this theory called "The Selfish Gene". I can not comment on how good the book is coz I have not read it.

We live for the good people. We live for the hope of good jobs and good lives without abuse. We live for what makes us happy--whether it's sports or music or friends.
Everyone has something different to live for, but basically everyone can find something they appreciate.
Edited to add, Max Ehrmann's "Desiderata" is a beautiful thing to read when you're distraught. Link below.

You are born to live, not living because you are born. If you want something you never had, do something you have never done.
Don't go the way life takes you.
Take the life the way you go
All good things in the world belong to those who dare to Dream and work for it ...change is inevitable, so you decide whether you want to change for good or otherwise. Lets take control of our destiny and fight for our share of good things in this awesome world!!!

The thing is that you can spend your entire life looking for the answer to that question. It takes more wisdom to realize you don't have the answer to why we live. Then, accept the fact and make the best of your life. You can make it misserable or wonderful.

Netflix, cheap beer, a vicious amount of sex, pissing off your parents, but mostly, anticipating the next batch of Windows software. Can hardly wait.
