'A Prairie Home Companion' is Veteran director and recent Oscar honoree Robert Altman's comedy film movie based on a long running radio program starring Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline. Other cast include Garrison Keillor, Lily Tomlin, Woody Harrelson, John C. Reilly, and Tommy Lee Jones.
'A Prairie Home Companion' originated from the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota running for more than 30 years. The first live broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion was aired on July 6, 1974.
Keillor plays himself, an avuncular wit who hosts the show. Kevin Kline plays Guy Noir, who is in charge of security at a radio show that's about to go off the air. Woody Harrelson and John C. Reilly are the show's singing/joking cowboys.Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin act as The Johnson Sisters - Yolanda and Rhonda who sing and bicker and reminisce, and try to pass on what they know to Yolanda's poetry-writing daughter (Lindsay Lohan) who is obsessed with suicide.
