The song was first performed by British rock band Black Sabbath on their 1970 "Paranoid" album. It has become a staple of their concerts and greatest hits albums. A live performance of the song on a 1999 reunion tour won them a Grammy for best metal performance. Ozzy Osbourne who was lead singer of Black Sabbath has also made it a feature of his performances. It reached #52 on the US charts in 1972.
