I have both septum and nostril piercing. While the septum was entirely painless, the nostril was a bit worse. If you've had an upper ear cartilage piercing, the feeling is rather similar, but a bit worse in the nose. All the pain is done and over with in seconds and I'm sure you'll be fine.
As someone with one and as a professional piercer who does them, you should expect nothing but professionalism and safety from the piercer.
You will go into the shop and you should be quickly greeted in a friendly fashion, they will check your ID and you will fill out a form. Once you tell them what you would like pierced they should have a separate, closed off room that the piercing will be done in. When you are there, look around: Is it clean, neat and tidy? Because it should be. Any signs of blood, dirt, or anything unusual you can question this or leave.
Once you are seated and as comfortable as possible, you will have your nose cleaned and wiped down to remove make up and oils. (While this goes on, they will explain the general procedure and give you a break down of what's going on) You should be allowed to mark a spot on your nose where you would like the piercing, if the piercer notices anatomy issues, they can ask you to move it (keep in mind this is rare). You should watch the piercer to make sure they change gloves when needed and be sure they show you all equipment and jewelry in its clean and sterile unopened packaging before they get started.
So with the dot on your nose, they will place a clamp on the area and as they go along, they will explain what they are doing and you are welcome to ask any questions you have while they do it. Once the clamp is in place, the piercer will ask you to take a deep breath in and on the exhale, then they pierce. Closing your eyes often makes it easier. Generally, you will feel a sting and most people's eyes will water. Most piercer will pierce from the inside of the nostril out. Once the needle is in, you can open your eyes and they will insert the jewelry. During this part, most people feel a slight tingle or sting, but this is nothing overly bad.
Once the piercing is done, they will clean up and give you aftercare instructions and they should also provide you with an aftercare sheet. During this time, as with through out the whole procedure, they should ask you if you have any questions, if you do speak up. If you have questions or concerns once you leave, be sure to call or visit them in person. When you are done, you pay them, thank them and be sure to tip.
On a scale of one to 10, I would say this is about a 5.5. But take two Motrin before you go and you'll be feeling fine. Keep in mind, the area will be sore the next few days and blowing your nose will be a bit fun. Most of the pain comes from the general soreness afterward and from infections, so be sure to take good care of the piercing.
I hope that covers everything...I wish you luck and until you get it done, let me know if you have other questions I can answer for you.

I've had mine pierced for almost 4 years now. I have a very tiny nose screw.
I don't remember it hurting all that much. I also have my navel pierced, and the nose was WAY less painful than that one! The only way I can really describe the sensation is to say that it feels like when you pull out a nose hair... It kinda stings and makes your eyes water. But its over in 2 seconds, so its really not that bad!
When you get there, you will fill out a release form and they will verify your ID to make sure you're 18 or older. You will probably receive written aftercare instructions at this point as well. You will pick out the jewelery that you want. Then they will set up their tools for the piercing. Sterilized clamp, needle and jewelry. Then they'll clean your nose and mark it with a marker where you want the piercing. Then they will put the clamp on your nose. Then they'll tell you to take a deep breath, and push the needle through as you exhale. After that they will put the jewelry in and you're all done! They'll go over the aftercare instructions again verbally and then you can go!
Good luck! Its not bad, I promise! I get compliments on mine ALL the time!

Dont let the pain stop you from getting it! No Matter how bad it is its only for about 2 seconds. When I had my lip pierced it was about 10 times more painful. Having your nose pierced heals well and theres low maintenance. On the pain scale i would say 3. It only seems much more painful when your nervous and you hype yourself up for nothing. You have probably never experienced a 10 before.

I just had mine pierced a couple of weeks ago. On the pain scale I would rate it about a 7 as well but it's over in a couple of seconds. Just be sure to go somewhere reputable. I'd been wanting to get mine pierced for quite some time. My experience was probably not the best...a day and a half after I had it done I had to go back. It wasn't a ring or stud that the guy put it. It had a flat surface. Because of swelling in my nose it looked as though my nose sort of engulfed the ring and it got sort of embeded into my nose to the point where I could barely see it. So instead of trying to root it out myself I went back to the shop. The guy I saw the second time said that it was a good thing that I went back. He said that I could either have him take it out or insert a different one. I opted for the second one. Having him take it out to put in another one was very painful...worse than the 1st time. The stud that he used is bigger than I'd like but I'll put a smaller one in in a couple of months. I was thinking about taking it out the other day but I'm worried that I'll have a big hole left. So right now I'm toughing it out and am doing the aftercare while it heals. I use a quarter of a tsp of sea salt in a cup of hot water. I mix it up and then soak a cotton ball in it and put it on my nose for a couple of minutes. You have to take care of it from the inside too which isn't much fun...I take a couple of q-tips, soak them and then stick them up my nose and let them hang out for a couple of minutes. Then at night I dab a bit of Tea Tree oil on it. This isn't my own concoction btw, it's was I was told to do after they did the job. Anyways, it's always good to be armed with as much info as possible before going ahead with the deed. Good luck!

hey
I think it all depends on the method you use. If you use the professional way and get it done with clamps and a big needle it may hurt quiet a bit, but it is much safer.
If you use the gun at a hair dresser it doesnt hurt that much, but you never know how clean they are, or if they know what they are doing... I got mine done at a hairdresser but only because it was my cousin and she gave me it free. As for the sensation It feels like you have pulled a nose hair or two out.
They look great if you use small jewlery they are very feminine and suit just about all females. (i dont think guys should ever have them done!)
Well good luck :)

I got my nose pierced about 5 years ago and I would say it was about a 7 on the pain scale but i have small nostrils so they were unable to use the alligator clamp to hold it,... but it was over very quickly, the only part that dtinks is when you have a cold but other than that i love mine

If you really want to know what to expect...
Put a pair of pliers in your right hand... open them slightly and place the jaws on either side of the septum of your nose.
Now take a deep breath, and quickly squeeze the handles of the pliers together.
Then make an appointment with a shrink.
Actually...
Nose rings look stupid in the center. Just pierce the left nostril and wear a 1/2 inch diameter ring. Those are hot!

i've had it done twice, on a scale of 1 to 10 its probably about a 4-5 ish....
it's really quick and only hurts for a second, afterwards it only hurts when you touch it. Or when you are cleaning it before it heals.
It's a good look when done properly, i prefer feminine looking piercings so i just had a really tine silver stud. Big Rings are not cool!

I also want to get mine done! I asked a lot of other people that I know that aleady have them...and I asked them to answer truthfully. Most of them answered that it was painful...probably on a scale of 1-10...it would be 7...and they also think that they get annoying at times...but i still want one! Hope I helped! Good luck!
