I am concerned the imported files may bring in viruses, spy-ware elements into my computer.

I think iTunes is completely safe; but if you are still concerned, you should activate the real-time protection shields of your anti-virus and anti-spyware.

First of all, if you decide to download itunes, make sure you download it from the Apple website , found here:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Second, if youre really concerned about spyware/adware, read the EULA (End user license agreement) when installing software, usually you download free software at the exchange for ad programs.

Third, itunes is free of adware programs, and if you do get infected with anything, its important to inform apple, because then they would have a problem in their hands!

Always download from trusted sites.

some people may try to offer itunes with spyware for download but if
you download it from the official site:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

then you won't get spyware with the program
