COLD.

A couple layers, waterproof outer layer, waterproof shoes, head cover, maybe scarf.

Oh, and bring extra snacks and entertainment when you are in the airport... your flight will likely be delayed, if you're flying.

It gets cold. I suggest wearing layers of clothes as if you are inside and outside it can get hot indoors quickly. Usually a light shirt then a sweater or comfortable top. Then if it is really cold add a warm jacket or long coat. Wear shoes that are comfortable and keep your feet dry.

Have fun. It is a great time to be in Chicago.

Its more windy there than it is "cold" as has been my experience while staying during the holidays. Its often cloudy and rainy, so just have a long coat that shields your legs and a scarf and gloves. I think jeans and sweaters should be fine for just hanging out in. If you are planning to dress up, woolen slacks, tall socks, and long sleeved items will be great. I would say it gets close to freezing at night, but around 40 degrees farenheight during the daylight hours. Have fun in chicago! Go to greektown, there is a great little coffee house that has great mocha cappuccinos and sweet treats!

Our weather has been MUCH different in the past few years and hasn't been extremely deep down cold as often as it use to.
You'll want to dress in layers so you can get to a comfortable level no matter what the day brings. We could be in the 30's or we could be -15. Keep an eye on weather.com for about 10 days before hand and they can start giving you the extended forecast on what to expect.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Layers, layers, and more layers!! The temperature isn't the issue here; it's the wind chill! When the wind is blowing, like it always in in Chicago, it will cut right through you if not dressed in layers. Be prepared and you'll be fine...enjoy the wonderful windy city!!!
