I live in Arizona and don't ever wear sunglasses just because I would always lose them or forget them, plus I could never get used to having something on my face. Now I don't even own a pair. Could I be doing damage to my eyes by spending considerable amounts of time outside without sunglasses? I'm comfortable enough without them, but I'm wondering about long-term damage...

Dear Andrea,
Sunlight contains UV radiation which again are of 3 types UV-A, UV-B and UV-C. UV-C is absorbed by the Ozone layer above our atmosphere. UV-A and UV-B reach the earth's surface.
UV-A and UV-B are both harmful for our eye. They both act on different parts of our eyes causing damage.

In general, UV rays can cause early cataracts, retinal degenerations, Sun burns (maculopathies) in retina, Viterous degenerations, corneal xerosis, conjunctival xerosis etc and much more..

So please wear a sunglass if you go out in sun...

There is a distinct chance you could be doing long-term damage to your retina--the reason most sunglasses put that UV-protection thing on them is that extensive UV radiation can do retinal damage.

Yes. You can develop cataracts from a lot of exposure to the sun without sunglasses that have UV protection.

You can get wrinkles around your eyes, but as long as you don't stare straight up at the sun you shouldn't cause actual damage to them.
