How many types of atoms can you expect to find in a pure sample of any element?

Only one...otherwise, it would not be a pure element.

It depends on what you mean by "type". For a pure element, all of the atoms will be of that element, thus one "type". However, most elements have more that one isotope, each with a different number of neutrons. For example, with hydrogen, there are two naturally occuring isotopes, protium (hydrogen-1) and deuterium (hydrogen-2), thus two "types". So you can see, it depends on what your question means.

One only because then it would'nt really be considered a pure element
