There is no way to tell you when you'll go into labor. The mucous plug reforms if you don't go into labor w/in about 48 hours. You'll go into labor when your body and your baby are ready.

ETA:
With my first, I went into labor about a week later.
With #2 & #3 I didn't really notice when my plug came out because it came out in little bits instead of one big glob like the first time.

ALSO....
You CAN still take baths if you lose your plug. You SHOULD NOT take baths if you think your water has broken.

This is not a stupid question, I think it's something almost every pregnant woman wonders about. Unfortunately there is no definitive answer as every women/every pregnancy is different. I've had 4 pregnancies/labours. The only time I noticed my mucus plug was about an hour after I went into labour with #3. I think it's normal to lose the mucus plug anywhere up to a couple of weeks before you go into labour right up to the time your labour starts. Good luck!

It depends on how much you lost. If it's just a little, then you'll see more coming later. When you see a long string of mucus with blood coming out, then you've lost majority of it. Your baby should be arriving the next couple days. Do a lot of walking. This will induce labor naturally.

I lost my mucus plug at 36 weeks and the baby arrived 3 days later.

It is normal to lose you mucus plug before going into labor, it can happen up to a couple of Weeks or days before you actually go into labor. Most importantly you need to let your OB know that you think you lost your mucus plug. If you did, it is important to not take baths because the baby can get an infection, especially if your cervix has started to dilate.

Hope this helps, and call your OB, it will give you some peace of mind if nothing else.

I lost my mucus plug after I went into labor with my first, third, fifth, and sixth chilren. With my second it was the beginning of my labor, I went to the bathroom had diarreah,(sorry about the grossness)and lost my plug at the same time. My contractions started like 2 minutes later. With my fourth child, I lost bits of the plug for about four days and had her 1 and 1/2 weeks later.

I lost my mucus plug over the course of two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) and went into labor on Thursday morning.

My sister in law lost her plug and didn't go into labor until two weeks later.

Just put your feet up and relax, if that's possible with another child in the house! Keep hydrated.

Mucus plug or not...at 38 weeks, you'll go into labour soon enough.

You go go into labour within a few days, r it could be weeks.

For me, it was about 3 days after.
