I live in Ohio ..A new bar owner took over the neighborhood bar 3 years ago....I live 4 ( four ) houses away from the bar ( and that is living ACROSS the street ) BUT the BANDS are so very very loud i can even hear them INSIDE MY HOUSE WITH the windows SHUT.. the are 5 of us homes owners that have complained to either the POLICE and myself have tried to talk to the new owner. BUT nothing is ever done about the LOUD BANDS,,,the one police officer asked my neighbor the other day if she OWNED or RENTED her house..Now why is that of any importance? then the officer tells her if she rented she could always move....This couple have lived in that house foe 30 years...My hubbie and i have been in ours 22 years. any suggestions on who to call to get something done? the neighbors have filed many many police reports . we have also called the mayors action line. the neighbors have also called many a city officials. But no luck at all...This has been going on for 3 years...PLEASE HELP...

1. Plan A. See if your city has a noise control ordinance. There may be limits after stated times of night.
2 Find out the city agency charged with enforcing that ordinance. It may be the environmental protection agency. If they won't help, you have to go to plan B.
3. Plan b, is you and your neighbors then hire a sound engineer, have him determine if the bar violates the noise ordinance.
4. Hire an attorney to enjoin the bar from violating the noise ordinance.
If your city has a city council, make an appointment to meet with the councillor or his/her assistant to try to goose the environmental agency to enforce the noise ordinance. The cops know that they don't have the instruments to determine how many decibels the bands are putting out so they are looking not to get involved.

Go to your local newpaper office and give them the details you have mentioned here. If they will not run a story about your problem, you can always write a letter to the editor. Mayors do not like to get negative publicity. Good luck.
