the skinny one, the small one, the one closest to your feet and farthest from your head, the highest pitched string, is the first string

In the standard tuning E A D G B E, the first E is the thickest E. That's the string closest to your eyes as you look down lovingly upon your guitar.

In the lyric from Rocky Horror, the 'E or first string' is the thinnest string; that is, the last E above.

If you're playing right-handed guitar, the string on the "top" (closer to your thumb) is the lowest.

the last 2 before me are right. its the smallest string. all standardized guitar tabs & learning aids do it that way.
