It still sounds like a timing issue... to make sure the timing is good... cut the fuel and use a little ether (Do not use too much)... If it wants to start the timing is good. The next step would be to check if your carb is flooding the system.

there are two types of timing, ignition timing and camshaft timing, you can confirm correct cam timing by removing plug # 1 and its valve cover, turn the engine over so that # 1 intake opens and closes, then put a pencil in the plug hole (dont let it fall in) and hand crank the engine and watch the pencil, it will show you where t.d.c. is , pull the distributor cap and it should be pointing at #1, if not , re adjust, then hand crank the engine, 1/2 rotation is b.d.c. in the next 1/2 rotation the exhaust valve will open and at t.d.c. again both will be open ,if you cant get it to run right you may have the cam out by a tooth, good luck , go slow , be care full, you can do this.

Sounds like a stuck float in the carb also check valve clearances and compression.

Oooo....I know!!
180 degrees off on timing.....
Change the spark plug wires across from each other and try again.

On the Dist. Cap.
