My all-time favorite is THE TRUE HISTORY OF THE KELLY GANG by Peter Carey. It is about Australia's Jesse James, and tells his story from Ned Kelly's point of view. Since he was barely literate, and he is the supposed author, it is written phonetically. Once you get the hang of it, though, it is really cool. It offers a glimpse of the history of Australia and the struggles of the poor. Great, great book. Exciting and informative.
