Most of the Jewish families in America do not pick a spouse to their children.
The religious ones may try to arrange an appropriate matchmaking, but in 99.99 % of the cases, it is all up to the child.

you might here of a rare case in some back part of Brooklyn, but 99.99% of the time the answer is no.

where i live there is a common practice of "matchmaking" - ie parents trying to set up their kids with other people's kids hoping that they will get married - but thats about it
