The consumer or jewelry trade is the best example of marketing I can think of. The diamonds used in the vast majority of jewelry are not rare - but they are "forever" - "true love" - "real" - and on and on the hype goes.
Industrial applications, for the most part, involve machining, cutting or grinding materials for all kinds of applications. Industrial diamond cutters and diamond chips and dust grinders are long lasting and comparatively inexpensive. Without them, other materials (carbide, silica, etc) would have to necessarily be replaced more often, costing more in time and materials and driving up the end price of the product.

I REALLY think that this is not a science question.....but anyways.
Diamonds are known for their hardness;they are the hardest known substance known to Man,even harder than steel. They can be man-made,but in VERY small quantities.Due to its hardness, diamonds are used for cutting tools on everything from dentist drills to high-end metal bits. Also, they are real nice and shiny, and of course never tarnish,or corrode, and can be cut REAL nice into shiny patterns,so they are THE object in any jewellery store.Diamonds can go up to millions 'cause they are so rare. They are valuable to the economy in this way;diamonds are one of Africa's main exports, along as some of the 3rd world ccountries main income, including Argentina and Brazil.

The industrial economy needs diamonds like you need air to breathe, They are used in high precision cutting and polishing (making contact lenses for example) production of wire, car making and on and on and on. Modern industry would come to an abrupt halt if there were no more diamonds.
