You can't take songs off your ipod and put them on the computer. If you could everyone would borrow their friends and everyone could copy everyone else's music. It's a one way street!

I see this all the time, and continue to ask myself how Apple rooked 90% of the market. I took this capability for granted when I bought my player (Creative,) but have enough experience with Apple products to know that there would be a "catch" to being their customer.

You have to enable your iPod to disk use
This site has step-by-step how you do that.

After enabling disk use, your iPod becomes just like a USB thumb drive, so you can just drag songs from it.
