What should you wear for formal and semi-formal occasions?

Formal - suit/dj, tie / female equivalent
semi-formal, smart jacket / blazer, darkish trousers (possibly not even a tie)

Formal for a man is a tux and semi formal can be either a tux or a dress suit. For women it doesn't mean a whole lot except if it's formal you need a gown, or a very dressy dress which you can also wear to a semi formal. you can wear a dress suit to a semiformal such as a black skirt short orlong with a dressy bluose and vest or jacket but, a dress is better. Formal is definetly prom like and semi is a little less if you want.Whatever you wear as long as it is in good taste and looks good on you it's fine. Just no pants unless it's semi and you have the jacket and shirt like a mans suit.

formal is something really dressed up like a prom or a ball. people wear tuxs and ball style gowns. semi formal is suit and tie along with nice dress, but not quit ball gown style...here i'll link some pics.

Formal occasion for a man: black tie/tux.
Semi-formal: Suit & Tie
Formal for woman: Gown or fancy cocktail dress
Semi-Formal: Cocktail dress or Suit (skirt or pants)

formal is like gowns and tuxedos. Semi formal is suit and tie, dress, skirt and blouse, pantsuit, that sort of thing.
