According to my religion,Judaism, homosexuality is not an acceptable way to live and homosexual affairs should never be conducted. But the Bible does recognise that they exist ( nature vs. nurture is not so clearcut) and insists that one should never ostrasize or treat one who is gay any differently from others.we are all equal. amen

He's right about the lack of leadership, because all of the religions are separated.
Christians> Pro-Gayrights, or against Gay rights
Jews> Pro-Israel, or against Israel,
Pro-Wall, or against Wall
Arabs/Muslims> Pro-Attacking Israel, or against Attacking Israel,
Pro-Terrorism, or against Terrorism
America> Pro-Middle East, or against Middle East
Just so that you know, no religions promote any of those horrible things that are happening.
It really doesn't make sense.
One thing that the three monotheistic, Abrahamic, Semetic, whatever religions share in common is this: If you do good things, then after you die you will be rewarded, but if you do bad things, then you will not be rewarded.
Think about it. Does that mean that people should run around killing Gays, Jews, Muslims, Christians, or Americans!!!!
No would be the logical answer.
For example. Think about Freedom of Speech. I'm sure there are hundreds of "holy book" quotes that say that people shouldn't say that, shouldn't say this, but should say ____. That's not against freedom of speech!
That's just telling you what is appropiate to say.
For example, swearing, cursing is prohibited.
That means that "we humans" are recommended not to swear.
That's all.

#1- People don't kill because of their faith in religion, but because of their beliefs. Hitler wasn't religious, he actually burned crosses and bibles during his reign.
#2- Specifically in Northern Africa HIV/AIDS has halted because the people there are religious and they don't believe that people should have sex before marriage.
The Poverty in all of Africa is a horrible thing, and has absolutely nothing to do with religion, but only to do with slavery. Ask Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
That's all folks!
Thank you.

I agree with some of what he's said, a lot of people do use religion to promote hatred, but not all. However, I don't see where he said WE should ban religion. I see that he I WOULD, there's quite a difference, don't you think? I think that even though you might not agree with it that he is entitled to his own opinion.

Ban each faith on this planet? Wouldn't that be the devout ideals of a couple of BILLION individuals? Give me a holiday... It could be so much less difficult simply to prohibit the song of Elton John, a a lot more clever and peaceable resolution.

I haven't had to ask my openly gay Episcopal priest on the subject.
Personally, it sounds as if Elton has been attacked on many sides of the religious world. Problem is, not enough religious people who support and embrace ALL people have been there to support him and assure him that religion as a whole are not hateful towards those who are different. I can see how he may have come to his drastic conclusion.

I think Elton John is a an extremely classy guy in his personal life. I think there are people in some religions that make their whole religion look bad. I myself am a Christian & get very embarrased by other Christians who will quote the Bible & talk about sin. We as Christians are supposed to be forgiving people but if you go to the gay/lesbian section you'll find the so called Christians bashing them & telling them they will go to hell. That really bothers me considering man wrote the Bible. It seems Unchristian, don't you agree?

religion promotes all sorts of unhealthy ideas, so why just stop at homophobia; when you have a "god" to tell you what is right and wrong then basic humanitarianism flies out the window..everything becomes "us" and "them".
It should be "we"

I agree with him, even though I am not gay.
As he has felt the anger towards the homosexual community first hand he has authority to speak, freedom of speech is something that religion has not yet captured.
Anything that tells you what to feel and think that isnt part of your own experience is dangerous, and religion is a control device of the most extreme. telling you how to live based on their beliefs is wrong, and makes bigots of them and contradicts gods word to live and let live. only god can judge, and if people dont believe, then why do you christians care. god cares... is that not enough?
long live the freedom to chose your lover, same sex or not.
love is blind to the politics of union...
love is blind, but not as repressive as blind faith!
we should all be allowed to live without hatred. gender, culture, ethnicity, belief. gays dont tell christians what to do, it should be the same in reverse.
I dont believethat he is going against religion to justify his choice to be gay, as I dont need justification to be me with my belief system. I dont need a following or an enemy to validate my choices. gays are human too, and as such are allowed to be as free as they want.

Many people hide behind religion to promote a rather pernicious agenda.
I can understand Elton's feelings
