I have a 2.5 gallon tank (I'm in college). I had two rosy barbs, and one just died. I know keeping barbs in such a small tank was a bad idea, but they were so pretty and I thought I could handle it. Anyways, they don't seem to be working out. What kind of fish can I add with one rosy barb left? If this one dies, what kind of fish could I fit in such a small tank? I don't want a betta because my little sister has one and if I get one it would be the end of the world for her. She likes to be original or something...

2.5 gallon tanks are too small for goldfish. Endlers livebearers and guppies are capable of living in small tanks.. The Endlers is a good fish for you because they are comfortable in that tight situation. they are extremely colourful ( google endlers livebearers peacock)

I'll start out telling you what you shouldnt keep in that tank - Do not keep barbs, danios, tetras, goldfish, etc. you could try keeping a couple of small mollies or guppies and a small loach or cory catfish for starters. Also keep your tank well filtered and aerated.

I was having a look for you & found some advice on reviews on this Amazon page:

If Platys are indeed suitable then I'd recommend them - there's such a wide range of colours & they breed easily ... though I suppose if they do you'll have a space problem. I also like them because they always seem to come up to the front of the tank to greet me ... of course that may just mean that they think they;'re gonna be fed ... lol

Oh - just looked at 'the information' links below ... looks like the tank should be 10 gallon for Platy ... what a shame.

Goldfish are a good choice if it is sharing a tank because they are a community fish. Also, they are tolerant of most water conditions, as are Japanese Fighter Fish. If you are looking for a pretty fish that can last in a small tank, I would go with the Japanese Fighter Fish. Good luck with your fish, I hope this advice was helpful.
