Loosing weight is simply calorie loss greater than calorie intake. To loss weight requires more than just dieting since the body will compensate for a decrease in food intake by slowing your metabolism. To truly loss weight, you need to reduce food intake and speed up your metabolism. Food intake is pretty straight forward. However, since you can not do any weight bearing exercises, you need to find some aerobic exercises which do not involve the legs. You can try an exercise rowing machine, where your legs are immobilize and your upper body does all the work. In addition, there is an arm pedaling machine; it is pretty much like pedaling a bicycle but you use your arms instead. Granted, it would be better if you could use your legs but these and other aerobic exercises which involve the upper body will still help you loss weight. Do you have a gym membership? Most of these machines are available in your typical gym. If not then now is a good time to get one.

Your physical therapist should start you on exercises to help strengthen & heal your knee within a day or two of surgery, so you won't have time to "chill" at all. Follow the PT's directions for the knee and exercise your other muscles as well, there are few exercises you won't be able to do aside from heavy leg lifts.

You can watch what you eat but just remember from somebody who has 5 knee surgery's under the belt. That you will loose weight when you start your therapy. I learned if they will let you have swimming exercises before the other workout it helps relax the muscles and that way you don't hurt so bad. Boy do they work you over in therapy. Good luck and may God watch over you during this time.

Usually doctors want your to be active after surgery. You will probably be going to physical thereapy. In adition you could do some upper body weight training.
also look for an upper body cycle machine called a UBE. It is like a bicycle for your upper body. Many PT places have them.

Eat fewer calories than your body uses with minimal activity. There are numerous calculators on the internet to see how many you need.
If you can, "chill" outside of the house, there may be less food around that way.
You can work on your arms and shoulders with some small dumbells.

I had knee replacement and was back to work in 2 weeks why are you down for 8 weeks you got make yourself get up.

dont eat any more than normal and find a way to do some upper body lifting...shouldnt be a problem for you knee but you would likely need someone aound to help you out....

you need to use dumbbells to work all of your upper body in higher reps, so you burn a little more calories..
eat filling stuff ( not junk food...waist of time and it goes to your waist...) eat salads and celery..celery takes more calories to burn off than the actual calories in celery...
drink a lot of pure plain water..stay away from all pop ( soda ) a lot of hidden calories...
believe me for a few days you will not want to do anything at all..
