A good place to go with the whole family is Utah. It's pretty out of the way and inexpensive and there are resorts all over the place. I grew up there and my family has skiers and boarders and we all do just fine. This site will give you links and information about each of those resorts (there are 13).
http://www.utah.com/ski/resorts/
My personal favorites are the ones up in Park City, about 45 minutes from Salt Lake City. These are Park City Mountain Reort, The Canyon Resort, and Deer Valley (skiing only).
The resorts in the Cottonwood Canyons, about 20 minutes from Salt Lake City are beautiful and the snow is always fluffy and powdery and easy for beginners and experienced riders.
I will warn you, East Coast skiing and West skiing are very different. In the west, some of the green runs are similar to the blue runs on the East Coast. Just a word of advice.
I hope you get to go to Utah, I grew up there and I learned to snowboard there and I wouldn't go anywhere else now that I've skied Utah.

Just about anywhere. All resorts offer a mixture of terrain...although some less than others.
Research your resort first, make sure boarding is allowed. There are a few scattered here and there where boarding isn't allowed. I believe Colorado is okay in that regards though. Deer Valley and Alta (Utah) don't allow boarders.
Although, since I live in Utah, I gotta plug the skiing here. I moved here because the snow is so awesome. Colorado is ok, but it doesn't really hold a candle to the quality of riding available here.
I might recommend something like Snowbird, Powder Mountain, Solitude, Canyons, or Park City.
Snowbird and Alta can be ridden on one ticket (more expensive obviously), so if you have someone who really likes to explore, that skis, they can spend days exploring both mountains, while Snowbird really offers enough challenge around for boarders and skiers for the others. Free shuttles, and a chairlift, connect the two mountains.
Colorado has much better night life, but if you are just there to ride, I recommend Utah. The snow is better, the weather is better, and for the most part, lift lines are smallish, especially on Sunday when all the good people go to church.

Keystone, Colorado and Crested Butte, Colorado have a large variety of different type of slopes that will appeal to all. Both also have excellent lessons. Crested Butte also used to be used for the Winter X Games, and is the home of some of the best snowboarders nation wide. Plus, it's a very nice little town.

you're able to desire to pass to any western ski motel. Whistler and Vail are the appropriate by ability of length on my own. That being mentioned i could somewhat be at Jackson hollow on a huge powder day then any the place else. From Indiana so must be waiting to force to the Denver area in around 14hrs. the summit county ski hotels are all very great. I takes till ultimately around the 2d or third week of January to assure super snow conceal yet its distinctive each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. That one enormous unload can exchange the completed early season for a motel.
