I sorta have a speech problem. I have always talked fast, I can't seem to help it, and as a result I stumble over words sometimes. I also stutter with some sounds and some words I can't even say because it's so hard to. I work in retail and when I say the total, there are some number combonations that are hard to say, like 2.66. The 2 part is fine but getting the 66 part out is hard. When I get nervous it's really bad because I talk even faster and get my words mixed up. I'm going to be getting a new job soon and I really need to have good communication skills. When I was younger I went to a speech therapist and they told me that I did have a speech problem after we went though different sounds. For some reason I never went back and I can't afford something like that now. I was just wondering if there was a website or book that had similar therapies and exercises that they use when treating speech problems.

Check out the web site for the Stuttering Foundation of America at www.stutteringhelp.org. They have online videos, tips for those who stutter (the tips for talking on the phone can be adapted for speaking in public), and any public library can get free books and DVDs that you can check out. You can go to "check your library" to see if yours has them. You can also buy them for yourself online if you wish. Or, call them at 800-992-9392. I have several family members who stutter, and we found that the Stuttering Foundation helped the most of anything any of them tried.

You seem to have a fluency disorder called "cluttering". There is a website, stuttering.org, which may be of use. If you live near a university that has a speech pathology program, they will have a clinic whwere you can get low- or no-cost speech therapy. This is such a rare disorder that they will be very happy to have you as a client.

The site below has loads of info about speaking. It may take a bit of time but I suggest you browse most of the pages even if they don't seem relevant because all pages have info about speaking.

I'm not familiar with it.A classmate from grade school and high school had successfully managed it and doesn't even acknowledge it anymore either.I believe he may have used hypnotherapy.
