The longest recorded 'number one' song is Don McClean's American Pie. I don't know the actual longest song, but it would almost have to be under 30 minutes, as that's the limit on a 12" vinyl (sort of anyway). Prince has a version of 'I Would Die 4 U' that almost hits the 23 minute mark, but does a remix count?
