Barking dogs being kept under control is an important part of peace in your neighborhood. When I lived in Detroit, there was an ordinance where no loud music could be played after 10pm. Of course there were ways around that if you wanted to have a party; one being - invite your neighbors. With dog barking, it could not be at all after 10pm and even during the day not allowed to continue for more than 30 minutes. People need to be responsible citizens, dog owners, etc and maintain reasonable peace. If it gets out of hand and talking to them doesn't help?... 911. But you know what, if you live near strip clubs and liquor stores, it's going to be noisier at night than if you lived in a community with mostly retired people.

Most cities have ordinances against unnecessary noise.
USE IT. Report noise everytime and it will eventually go away.
At first the police or whoever checks out noise will not be aggressive because sometimes people are just in a bad mood, but after about three times getting calls on the same dog, they will begin to take it seriously. Keep at it.
If you don't get any satisfaction from the authorities you could call animal welfare and report the animal as neglected.

unfortunately too many irresponsible people own dogs. i love dogs they are great animals and make great pets, that said i hate, really hate most peoples dogs. why because they are ill trained. people where i live not only let their dogs bark half the day they let their aggressive large dogs roam the street where some poor kid our riding a bike could get bitten. i do think people are just selfish and lacking in the attention they pay. so people take care of your dogs, train them. don't be the jerk down the street with the freak'n pain in the butt dog everyone hates. I'd also say it really reflects on what kind of person you are if you do these inconsiderate things to your neighborhood.

No I don't live in a quiet neighborhood. We have dogs everywhere.........and they bark day and night. I use something at night to help me sleep. It cost about $30.00. I think its called the night sleeper....?..... It plays the ocean, or a rain-shower, or a thundershower, a heartbeat or a sound of a fan but without the fan. Get the picture? It really helps. Maybe you could try something like that.....Good Luck.....

I can get pretty noisy at times. Burning rubber , banging out dents or chopping up junk cars. My neighbor does a lot of work outside too. Sometimes he helps me. Sometimes I help him. When the sun goes down we calm down too. The rest of the neighbors are pretty much the same.
Otherwise it's a quiet peaceful town in Maine where people are considerate of their neighbors.
When I lived in Massachusetts the neighbors hated each other and b!tched about everything.
My dog only barks at the mailman. The neighbors dogs only bark at my dog.
