I would take a wide variety of courses...sciences, maths, history, geography, languages. That way you will have all of your bases covered.

The general classes - at least 3 years of math and english, history, a foreign language, civics, chemistry, biology, physics, general science, computer skills, music, economics, psychology for a start. If you take the college prep. curriculum (or whatever your school calls it), you should have a decent start. Honors or advanced placement classes would be a big plus. Then consider getting involved in sports, the school play, student government, and any student groups that interest you also. Be a leader if you can.

The idea is to cover as many different subjects as you can, so that you have a well rounded education and background to help prepare you for whatever you decide to do. The academics will help you get admitted to college. The extracurricular activities will help you become a more rounded person. That will also help with the college admissions.

Taking Spanish as a second language would probably be your best bet. I'm a college freshman and took French during high school. However, unless you think you might to international business, Spanish would suit you best in the U.S. Also, if your high school offers any duel credit courses, take those. I found that Psychology helped me the best because I began to understand how the mind works and therefore understand what I want and why I do what I do. Take any AP courses as well if you think you're up to them, because if you test high enough on the AP test then you'll have less courses to take once you get into college.

Take plenty of math, science, foreign language, history, English and art. That way, you'll be well-prepared for any career. While taking these courses, I recommend jotting down a couple of notes on what you like about a particular subject and what you don't like. Then choose careers that focus on the subject(s) you do like.

Even many Freshman in college apparently don't know what they want to do their lives, as majors are often changed before graduation. I would suggest a well-rounded education. You could also talk to your school counselor.
