The War of the Roses was fought between the House of Lancaster (symbol red rose) and the House of York (symbol white rose)

You can still see the signficance of this in sporting badges ie Leeds United FC has/had a stylised white rose, Lancashire CCC still use a red rose (I think)

Henry was a Lancaster (the winners) but cemented peace afterwards by marrying Elizabeth of York
