You do not give much detail on your problem but I would venture to say that the washer fills and washes and drains and then it just stops. If this is what is happening check the water temperature going into the washer right at the start. You probably have the water temp. set for warm wash and cold rinse. You are probably getting hot water but no cold for a warm wash. When it comes time for the cold water to enter for the rinse you are not getting any water so the machine just sits there dead.

Somtimes the water temp. select buttons are not selected or pushed in properly and the machine will not fill.

Make sure that the cold water is turned on at the faucet. If it is on then you have a bad fill valve(the thing that the hoses are attached to on the rear of the washer) and it needs to be replaced.

Replacing the timer is not worth it. Cost almost as much as another washer. You can find places that sell use washers. That is what I do; when it quits, after 2-3 years, buy another used washer or dryer.

Let me give you some advice, I pick up old appliances and whole sale some to used appliance stores. they won,t buy any maytag washers, even the new ones. They cost too much to fix. buy a whirlpool or kenmore.
