Why do people hate emos and goths so much?

I'm emo, and I don't see how much different we are from what is considered normal. For gothics, with the exception of the fashion, I don't see that much difference unless you stereotype (which is a stupid thing to do in my opinion).

Please no mean posts.

I mean like don't say stuff like emo sux (like in my last one where I was asking about bands).

You ask why people "hate emos and goths so much" but also request no mean posts? How can one answer such a question truthfully without being mean?

Here is my best effort: Other people don't like goths or emos because this type of behavior and appearance is detrimental to your potential future sucess in conventional careers. Conventional careers constitute the vast majority of sources of earning money. Since emos and goths are generally intelligent people who feel the need to be individuals (though you are grouped as goths and emos anyway) you appear to be wasting your potential.

And here is the kicker: wasted potential, once recognized, is more painful to the beholder than the possessor.

Fear and intolerance. Most people just bash because they've nothing better to do, and what does that say about them? Just be your natural self and don't worry.

People have low tolerance for people that do not look like everyone else. It makes them afraid of them.
